			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Widespread overweight is a relatively new phenomenon.  So is adult-onset diabetes, kidney stones, hypertension, coronary heart diseases and cancer of the bowel. Together with many other chronic degenerative ailments, these belong to a group of illnesses now known as Diseases of Western Civilization.  These conditions are hard to treat—so hard that, despite all the sophisticated drugs and leading-edge techniques of modern medicine, we have been unable to halt their spread.  For, unlike the microbe-generated infectious diseases like typhoid and tuberculosis, Western Diseases are lifestyle-caused.  Thanks to pioneering works from scientists such as Sir Robert McCarrison—who did the first epidemiological studies on the relationship between diet and health—and Drs Weston Price, Dennis Burkitt and Hugh Trowell, it is now widely accepted that degenerative conditions including obesity have developed as a direct result of the massive changes that have taken place over the last 150 years in how we live—especially in the way we eat.</p>
<h2>NO WONDER WE’RE IN TROUBLE</h2>
<p>A lot has happened to our foods in the last century to produce this state of affairs.  First, they are grown differently than the way our ancestors, for thousands of years, grew theirs.  We grow food on chemically fertilized soils in which the organic matter has been degraded or destroyed.  Eating foods this way leads to a depletion and imbalance in the minerals and trace elements available to our bodies—both of which we need in good quantities, to support complex metabolic processes on which health and leanness depend.  Second, our foods are now highly processed.  Raw foodstuffs, instead of being made into meals in home kitchens as they were in our grandparents&#8217; time, are sent to food manufacturers where they are fragmented—literally broken apart physically and chemically—then put through complex manufacturing processes to alter them out of all recognition.  Third, our foods are shipped over long distances and stored for long periods of time, both of which lower their nutritional value.  These modern practices destroy food&#8217;s wholesomeness—a property very hard to measure, except in terms of the degenerative effects that eating such foods has on our bodies.  Destroy a food&#8217;s wholesomeness and you destroy a food&#8217;s ability to support the highest levels of health.  And once the health-giving integrity of any food has gone, it has gone for good.  It can never be compensated for by vitamin and mineral supplements, or by eating cereals to which extra fiber and vitamins have been added.  </p>
<h2>FOOD’S NATURAL STATE</h2>
<p>Our great-grandparents—whether they were Africans, Indians, Orientals or Europeans—had two important things in common.  Their meals were mostly prepared from foods of animal and vegetable origin, and the foods they ate were little processed.  They were eaten whole, as closely as possible to their natural state.  </p>
<p>Such foods form the basis of a way of eating that rejuvenates the body and restores healthy functioning.  This kind of eating helps prevent the development of obesity and other degenerative conditions—even if you happen to have inherited a tendency towards them.  This way of eating can free people of all ages from much suffering caused by degenerative conditions such as high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, diverticulitis and other Western diseases.</p>
<h2>FORGIVE YOURSELF NOW</h2>
<p>There is one more major change that has taken place: today we also swallow a kaleidoscope of chemical colorants, flavorings additives and `enhancers&#8217;, not to mention pesticides, herbicides and fungicides, which our ancestors never imagined in their wildest dreams.  We slurp down chemical pollutants with each sip of our diet cola and every bite of our pre-cooked meals.  Such is the Western diet.  So next time you upbraid yourself for what you perceive to be your lack of willpower as you reach for yet another biscuit and feel guilty about it, let the guilt go.  It does not belong to you.  The denatured, degraded, food we eat bears the lion&#8217;s share of blame for the fat state we find ourselves in, as well as for how hard it is in our culture to stay lean and to remain healthy.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have a passion for plants—especially house plants. I have many in my house. In one large room, I even have a Ficus benjamina, which is 30 feet tall. I’ve had it for years. It was maybe 10 feet tall when I started with it. Now it is a magnificent life-form that delights me. It lives in a room with about five or six others, many of them rainforest plants. It’s a room we use for meditation, celebration, and work. </p>
<h2>PLANTS FOR PURE AIR</h2>
<p>What has happened—and I find this so exciting—is that there has been some recent research done by NASA scientists keen to explore the possible effects plants have on the environment, with reference to off-planet facilities for astronauts. What they discovered is that common indoor plants are amazingly powerful in fighting against the rising levels of indoor air-pollution in both offices and homes. Why? Because a number of plants—and they only studied and verified the effects of nineteen, though they strongly suspect there are many more—absorb potentially harmful gases, and clean the air inside our homes and buildings.<br />
Plant physiologists have long known that plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. But what the researchers have now found is that many house plants absorb nasty chemicals like benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene. How the scientists discovered this was to take a particular plant, put it in an enclosed space, and then introduce chemicals individually to see how the plant responded. The responses were fabulous. This is really important for all of us, because newer buildings are often tightly insulated and sealed to conserve heat or air-conditioning. This insulation, combined with the kind of chemicals used in building and painting, causes what is known as the “sick building syndrome”. I’ve always felt that house plants are beneficial to our lives, and sensed that they purify and renew our stale indoor air by filtering out toxins and replacing our exhaled carbon dioxide with life-sustaining oxygen. </p>
<h2>OXYGENATE YOUR LIFE</h2>
<p>Some house plants, according to NASA’s research, are more efficient in filtering out toxins than others. Philodendrons, for instance; spider plants; common English Ivy; even Ficus benjamina. Mostly they looked at green plants, but they also looked at a couple of flowering plants—one of them was Chrysanthemums. If people get Chrysanthemums, they usually bring them in while blossoming, and then take them outside. But it may be that we should keep some of these flowers inside permanently. Finally, one of the plants which I am very fond of, that they found enormously helpful in creating good air, is the Aloe vera plant. </p>
<h2>HOW MANY ARE IDEAL</h2>
<p>The NASA studies recommend that we use 15-18 good size plants to improve air quality in an average 1800 square foot house. I am going to explore the possibility of introducing a lot more plants to my wonderful indoor collection. I hope you will too. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I’ve always loved a quote by American TV personality, Lucille Ball. She used to say, <em>“The secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.”</em></p>
<p>In many ways, she was right. Your age does not depend on how old you are chronologically. It depends on the state of your biomarkers. These are scientific measures of how old you are biologically. So forget the birthdays—this is the only age that matters. And the good news is, by making simple lifestyle changes, you can reverse not only how old you look and feel, but how your body functions—in medically measurable ways. </p>
<h2>BIOMARKERS HOLD THE ANSWER</h2>
<p>Whatever your chronological age, your biomarkers are always changing for the better or worse. A few years ago, a couple of American scientists named Irwin H. Rosenberg, M.D. and William J. Evans, PhD, carried out some long-term research to identify the biomarkers of aging, and to determine clear-cut scientific measurements that doctors are able to use to determine how old an animal or a human is biologically. These biomarkers make it possible for you and your health professional to assess your functional age right now, then to reassess it as you make changes in your lifestyle designed to reverse the aging process. </p>
<h2>MEET SARCOPENIA</h2>
<p>Let’s look at the biomarker which most fascinates me.  It is probably the least recognized but the most important of all in assessing your biological age. It’s called sarcopenia—a kind of physiological degeneration where you lose lean body mass and replace it with fat. Sarcopenia is a great word; remember it. It’s something you really need to know about. The process takes place when your muscle mass shrinks and your fat levels go up.  This happens to most people as the years pass, because they eat wrongly and don’t use their bodies. Sarcopenia is not, as most people believe, a normal part of growing older.  But when it is allowed to develop, it brings a lot of nasty aging consequences in its wake: loss of strength, lowered basal metabolic rate, an increase in the percentage of body fat, and degenerative conditions as well as chronic illness. Reversing sarcopenia is the most important change that you can make to de-age yourself in every way. </p>
<h2>SHED FAT, GAIN YOUTH</h2>
<p>People worry all the time about how much weight they’re carrying. But weight isn’t the issue. It is the inessential fat you carry which you need to lose. These are the fat deposits which distort your body shape, and are almost impossible to shed permanently on ordinary slimming diets. </p>
<p>You see, slimming diets don’t only shed fat, they eat up protein—that is, your muscle mass. After being on a slimming diet, more than 90% of people regain the weight they have lost within a year. But they don’t regain precious muscle tissue. Conventional dieting creates higher and higher levels of sarcopenia, aging your body rapidly.   Muscle loss from yoyo dieting is virtually impossible to put back. Fat is easy—just eat a few muffins each week. The more you go on and off slimming diets, the more fat gets laid down, and the more muscle gets lost. Sarcopenia, plus the accelerated aging that accompanies it, runs rampant throughout your body—not only from dieting but also from living a couch potato life.  It is the single most destructive biomarker in relation to aging that scientists have as yet been able to identify.<br />
<H1>CALLING CURA ROMANA</H1><br />
The only person that ever adequately addressed how to be able to shed fat while protecting lean body mass—even to increase it in the process—is the brilliant British physician, A.T.W. Simeons. What Simeons discovered was that obesity in all of its many forms is the result of an abnormal functioning in the body. He found that people who suffer from this abnormal functioning will continue to put weight on and find it almost impossible to lose. Someone who does not suffer from this abnormality doesn’t get fat, even if they overeat. Simeons discovered that the abnormality responsible for weight gain, food cravings and addictions is centered in a part of the brain called the diencephalon, which encompasses the hypothalamus, thalamus and pituitary, as well as the autonomic nervous system as a whole. What is unique about Cura Romana weight and health transformation is that it directs the body to correct this disorder. in the body’s fat control center. </p>
<p>As this happens, the loss of inessential fat takes place automatically as a consequence of re-establishing its healthy functioning. Cura Romana is the only weight loss program which  can reverse sarcopenia. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>More than anything else on earth except air to breathe, your body needs water for energy, for health, and for beauty. The water you drink plays a major part in your ability to digest your foods and absorb nutrients, thanks to enzymes which are themselves mostly water.  If you fail to drink enough water between meals, your mouth becomes low in saliva and digestion suffers.  Water is also the medium through which wastes are eliminated from your body.  Each time you exhale you release highly humidified air—about two big glasses worth a day.  Your kidneys and intestines eliminate another 6 or so glasses every 24 hours, while another 2 glasses worth are released through the pores of your skin.  That makes 8 glasses a day—and this is on a cool day.  When it gets hot, when you are exercising, or when you are working hard, the usual 10 glasses lost in this way can triple.  On average, in a temperate climate—not sweating from exertion or heat—we need about 6 pints a day for optimal health, although few of us consume as much as 2.  The important thing to remember is that how thirsty you are is not a reliable indication of how much water you need to drink.  If you want to grow lean and stay that way you need to do as French women have done for decades.  Keep a large bottle or 2 of pure, fresh mineral water on your desk and make sure you consume your quota of this clear, delicious, health-giving drink.  Here&#8217;s how to figure it:</p>
<h2>WEIGHT LOSS MAGIC</h2>
<p>Divide your current weight in kilos by 8.  If you weigh 58 kilos, then 58 divided by 8 equals 7.25 big glasses.  Then round the figure upwards to the next glass and there you have it: 8 glasses a day.  But remember that is only a base calculation for a cool day.  You will need a lot more during exercise, or on a hot day. </p>
<p>Provided you do not suffer from a kidney or liver disease, drinking 8 big glasses or more of water a day not only helps you lose weight and keep it off permanently; it improves the functioning of your whole body.  There is another way in which drinking optimal quantities of water plays a central role in detoxifying the body for regeneration.  It has to do with your kidneys.  The kidneys are responsible for recycling all the water in your body—some 800 glasses of it a day—and for filtering out any wastes present before they can lower immunity, create fatigue, or make you feel hungry even though you have had enough to eat, and cause the kind of water retention which plagues so many who have gone on and off slimming diets for years.  The filtering mechanism responsible for all this in the kidneys is made up of millions of microscopic bodies known as glomeruli.  They identify waste products such as urea which need to be removed, as well as screening out other chemicals and unwanted metals and minerals, while at the same time pouring back into the bloodstream the minerals you do need and regulating your body&#8217;s acid-alkaline balance.</p>
<h2>DRINK WATER—END WATER RETENTION</h2>
<p>When some part of you needs more water, your kidneys make sure it arrives.  For instance, when you are hot and sweating, a message is sent to the pituitary gland in the head telling it to release the anti-diuretic hormone which in turn tells your kidneys to let more water be reabsorbed into the blood.  Your urine at such times can become highly concentrated and a dark color.  But provided you replenish the water you are losing in sweat by drinking more, your kidneys remain happy and well-functioning, and the appetite/thirst messages from your brain do not become confused.  When your body&#8217;s water level gets too low, however, from not drinking enough, your kidneys cannot carry out their cleansing efficiently and the liver&#8217;s role in detoxification becomes overburdened.   Water is also the world&#8217;s best natural diuretic.  If your body tends to retain water, this is often because you don&#8217;t drink enough, so it tries its best to hold on to the water there is.  Once you do begin to drink enough, this tendency to water logging decreases and usually disappears completely.  And by the way, if you are worried about puckered thighs, the best way to help eliminate them easily is simply to drink more water.  Keep a liter and a half bottle on your desk or in your room and see that you drain it every day, regardless of whatever else you drink. <p>The most obvious way to avoid a hangover is don’t drink.  If you do drink then choose only the best—be it wine, whiskey, or whatever, and never overdo it.  The best always has fewer unpleasant chemicals—known as congeners— to upset the system.  King of all the alcohols when it comes to purity and low levels of congeners is tequila.  However, if you make yourself a margarita, make it from real tequila.  So much of the stuff they sell as tequila is filled with a lot of insidious junk you don’t want to put into your body.  </p>

The finest blue agave comes from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. It must be harvested at the peak of its sweetness. My brother, whom I adoringly call Toto, is a connoisseur of Tequilas. He insists—I have checked out his recommendations and come to trust them implicitly—that the finest tequila is made by Patron. Anejo Patron is his favorite.  Silver Patron is mine. </p>
<p><a href="http://transfigureyourlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/silver.jpg"><img src="http://transfigureyourlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/silver.jpg" alt="" title="silver" width="200" height="262" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-234" /></a>My son Aaron has developed a fabulous recipe for Margaritas.  It’s very simple:  To a handful of ice in our Vita Mix he adds four jiggers of freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice, 4 jiggers of Silver Patron, 2 jiggers of Cointreau or Grand Marnier, a couple of jiggers of water and the crème de la crème, a dropper or two of the most delicious stevia in the world: English Toffee Sweet Leaf Liquid stevia from iherb,com (so much more delicious than the usual sugar or syrup, which is really rather revolting).  He turns on the Vita Mix for 30 seconds while he rubs the rim of each glass with one of the lemon or lime skins, then plunges it into a saucer of Maldon salt to coat the rim.  This makes Margaritas for 4 people.  A perfect hangover-free treat to share with friends.</p>
<h2>WORST CASE SCENARIOS</h2>
<p>Now let’s get back to hangovers, should they happen from drinking stuff that’s not so pure or far too much of even a good thing.  Drinking lots of fluids along with alcohol helps to prevent the dehydration that comes with an over-indulgent evening.  There are also a couple of things you can do the morning after to help feel better.</p>
<p>First thing, make yourself a cup of peppermint tea.  Put 2 teaspoons of the dried leaves (or 4 teaspoons of fresh) into a tea pot and pour a cup of boiling water over it.  Steep for 5-10 minutes and sip it gently.  The peppermint will settle your stomach.  Breathing in the steam from your tea will also help to ease your headache.  </p>
<p>When your stomach is settled enough to handle more, take a couple of grams of vitamin C and 2-3 grams of evening primrose oil, or star flower or borage oil.  The vitamin C’s antioxidant properties help the liver clear the toxic wastes from too much alcohol.  The GLA in these oils is turned into prostaglandin E1—an important regulator of mood which alcohol depletes.  When it is low you can feel depressed and very tired.  </p>
<h2>SAINT MARY’S THISTLE</h2>
<p>Also known as milk thistle is a wonderful liver cleanser and supporter.  Take 2 capsules or 1 teaspoon of tincture in a little water every 3-4 hours until you are feeling better.</p>
<p>If you can remember where you last saw it in your current state, reach for some dried borage as well.  Open the jar, or put it in a paper bag, hold your nose over the bag and take a deep breath.  No one has ever explained to me how it does it, but this clears your head wonderfully.  I have heard that taking ginkgo before you go out for the evening can also help to prevent hangovers by enhancing your body’s ability to metabolize alcohol swiftly.  However, I’ve never heard anyone say how much you should take, or how long before drinking alcohol you should take it.  If you are taking ginkgo for other reasons, pay attention to how you feel after a glass or two of wine and see if this makes a difference.</p>

It is the stuff from which your blood, your cells, your muscles—even your bones—are mostly made.  A healthy person who weighs 65 kilos carries about 40 litres of water around—25 liters inside the cells, 15 liters outside, including 5 liters in the blood.  Let yourself become dehydrated, and the chemical reactions in the cells involved in fat burning become sluggish.  Also your cells cannot build new tissue efficiently, toxic products build up in your blood stream, and your blood volume decreases so that you have less oxygen and nutrients transported to your cells—all of which are essential to fat burning.  Dehydration also results in your feeling weak and tired, and can lead to over eating as it disturbs appetite mechanisms, so you think you are hungry even when you are not.  The role of water in weight control and health in general is almost completely ignored.  The brain too is 75 percent water.  This is why the quantity and quality of water you drink also affects how you think and feel.  Thoughts and feelings become distorted when your body gets even mildly dehydrated.  For mental clarity and emotional balance you need plenty of water.  But if the water you drink is polluted by heavy metals or chemicals, then the biochemical reactions on which clear thought and emotional balance depend will become polluted as well.</p>
<h2>SCALING EVEREST</h2>
<p>Drinking enough water brings dynamic energy.  When Sir Edmund Hillary set out to conquer Everest he had a shrewd doctor named George Hunt on his ascent team.  Hunt knew this precept well.  He had studied the records of a recent failed attempt by the Swiss team, and discovered that their climbers had drunk less than two glasses of water per day per man.  So he ordered special battery-operated snow-melting equipment for the kit and urged the British climbers to take a minimum of twelve glasses of water each day of the climb to reduce their fatigue as they scaled the peaks.  </p>
<h2>VITALITY TO SPARE</h2>
<p>Since then, research with athletes at Harvard University and Loma Linda University in the United States, carried out to explore the relationship between water drinking and energy, has demonstrated that drinking extra water reduces fatigue and stress and increases stamina and energy to a remarkable degree.  During one of the Harvard studies, researcher G.C. Pitts set athletes walking at 3 miles an hour, allowing them to rest regularly, but not allowing them to drink extra water.  They reached exhaustion after 3 hours with temperatures of 102 degrees fahrenheit.  Under the same conditions, he allowed them to drink as much as they wanted.  The same athletes lasted 6 hours before collapsing.  The third time around athletes were forced to drink more water than thirst dictated—in quantities calculated by researchers to replace what was being lost in perspiration.  This time the athletes were able to continue indefinitely without fatigue or fever, until finally, after running out of time, researchers were forced to bring the experiment to a close.  </p>
<p>Few of us drink as much water as we need to remain in top form.  Even if you pay attention to your thirst and quench it regularly, you are likely to replace only about a half to two-thirds of the water your body needs for optimal health.  </p>
<h2>YOUR UNIQUE QUOTA</h2>
<p>It takes a bit of practice at first to make sure you get your water quota each day but soon it will become second nature.  Start by drinking two glasses of water first thing in the morning when you get up, either neat or with a twist of lemon or lime.  You can heat the water if you like.  This helps with elimination.  Then drink two or three glasses between breakfast and lunch, and another two or three between lunch and dinner.  When you exercise or when it is hot, remember to drink more.  Getting into the water habit will quench your appetite, improve your body&#8217;s ability to eliminate wastes, heighten your energy levels, improve the look of your skin and help your metabolic processes function at peak.  You will be amazed to discover just how potent are its gifts.</p>
<p>Here is an action plan to help you experience the vitality that water drinking can bestow upon you:</p>
<ul>
<li>Divide your weight in kilos by eight then round up to the next glass to<br />
discover how many 8 ounce glasses of water to drink each day</li>
<li>Drink two glasses of clean water on rising and then get your daily quota by drinking more between meals</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Early on in the twentieth century, a few scientists—mostly in Germany—experimented with chemicals as a means of fertilizing food crops.  They found that a mixture of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) would grow big yield crops of good-looking vegetables, grains, legumes and fruits.  But little interest was taken in their discoveries until the end of World War II.  At that time most foods were still grown pretty much as they had always been—by farmers who manured, mulched, and rotated their crops to keep soils rich and in good condition.  To put it another way, most food was grown organically, although nobody had even coined the word; for this was no more than what traditional farmers throughout the world had done for thousands of years.  </p>
<h2>MASS DESTRUCTION BEGAN HERE</h2>
<p>When the war ended, big chemical conglomerates who had been involved in the manufacture of phosphates and nitrates as war materiel found themselves stuck with huge stockpiles.  They went looking for new markets.  Aware of the early research into chemical fertilizing, they turned towards farmers, and began to sell them artificial NPK fertilizers at costs low enough to make it all look very attractive.  These purveyors of chemicals also spread the false belief that NPK is all you need to grow healthy crops.  There were unfortunately two very important facts that the chemical hawkers left out.  Probably they did not even know.  After all, it was not good for their profit margins to know.  The first is that, although plants grow big on artificial fertilizers, they do not grow resistant to disease.  The second is that the health of human beings eating food plants grown this way is, sooner or later, seriously undermined.  </p>
<h2>CHEMICAL VICTIMS</h2>
<p>Plants grown only on NPK are deprived of essential minerals and other micro-substances they need to synthesize natural complexes in roots and leaves, which ward off attack by insects, weeds and animals.  So before long the new artificially fertilized vegetables and fruits began to develop diseases.  The chemical hawkers were quick to the rescue.  The answer to this problem, they said, would be found in using more chemicals.  That is how pesticides, herbicides, nemacides and fungicides came into being.  They provided chemical companies with yet another exciting business opportunity—especially since the longer you fertilize chemically, the more depleted in organic matter your soils become, and the less they contain of the minerals and trace elements needed to synthesize natural protective complexes during growth, so the more pesticides you need.  So as time went on, more and more pesticides and other chemicals were sold.  Before long another important fact began torear its ugly head.  It was this: like plants, human beings need a lot more than nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus from the foods they eat too, to maintain their own health.  </p>
<p>Your body cannot make minerals.  It has to take them in, in a good balance, from the foods you eat.  In addition to nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, it requires magnesium, manganese and calcium, selenium, zinc, copper, iodine, boron, molybdenum, vanadium, and probably other elements as yet undiscovered as well, to stay healthy.  These elements need to come from the foods you eat.  Generally they do, when foods are grown organically in healthy, traditionally fertilized soils.  But they are increasingly missing and unbalanced in the foods we buy today, thanks to our legacy of chemical farming.  </p>
<h2>EARTH’S BLESSED CREATORS</h2>
<p>The organic matter in healthy soil is Nature&#8217;s factory for biological activity.  It is built up as a result of the breakdown of vegetable and animal matter by the soil&#8217;s natural &#8216;residents&#8217;—worms, bacteria and other useful micro-organisms.  The presence of these creatures in the right quantity and type gives rise to physical, chemical and biological properties that create fertility in our soils and make plants grown on them highly resistant to disease.  When it comes to human health, they do a lot more.  </p>
<p>The minerals and trace elements we need to look after our metabolic processes, on which health and leanness depend, must be in an organic form—that is, taken from living things like plant or animal foods.  You cannot eat nails—inorganic iron—for instance, and expect to protect yourself from anaemia, or chew sand—inorganic silica—and be sure to get enough silica, the trace element that keeps your nails and hair strong and beautiful, and helps protect your bones from osteoporosis.  It is the organic matter in soils that enables plants grown on them to transform inorganic iron and silica into the organic form which is taken up by the vegetables and fruits, grains and legumes. </p>
<p>Destroy the soil&#8217;s organic matter through chemical farming, and slowly but inexorably you destroy the health of people and animals living on foods grown on it. Eating food grown organically protects from significant mineral deficiencies, as well as from distortions in mineral balances.  What few people realize is that an overload of one or more mineral elements alters your body’s ability to get enough of other minerals, undermining the people&#8217;s health.  No such protection is available when foods are chemically grown.  So eat organic even if you have to grow your own foods in the garden or feed on sprouted seeds you grow in your kitchen window.  Your body will bless you with energy, protection from early aging, and the sense of wellbeing that many long for but few as yet experience.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Valid discoveries in medicine depend on the ability of researchers to make accurate observations in relation to the subject they are studying. For the past 70 years, obesity research has been based on massive false assumptions which, by now, have developed all the earmarks of a fundamentalist religion.  Even governments have bought into these lies.  Here’s one of the biggies that form their false litany.  In the words of the Surgeon General of the United States—“overweight and obesity are the result of excess calorie consumption and/or inadequate physical activity.”</p>
<h2>IT JUST AIN’T TRUE</h2>
<p>There is so much nonsense taught about obesity, not only through the media, but even through published findings of trained scientists and doctors who should know better. If ever you decide to take time out and to plough through the voluminous research and declarations about obesity, its causes and its cure—as I have done virtually ad nauseam—you will discover that some important conclusions about the cause of weight gain, and the difficulties of making weight loss permanent, demand to be drawn. Some of them will surprise you I think, because we have been taught to believe so many false ideas by the media, food manufacturers and Big Pharma.  </p>
<ul>
<li>Obesity is NOT a disorder caused by lack of exercise.  Nor will intense exercise prevent or cure overweight.
</li>
<li>Obesity is NOT caused by overeating or lack of will power. As the prestigious National Academy of Sciences report Diet and Health points out, “most studies comparing normal and overweight people suggest that those who are overweight eat fewer calories than those of normal weight.”</li>
</ul>
<h2>THE TRUTH CONCEALED</h2>
<p>Overweight and obesity are states of excess fat accumulation as a result of some, as yet officially unidentified, disequilibrium in the hormonal regulation of fat metabolism. This is the major issue which must be addressed to conquer the epidemic of chronic overweight. </p>
<p>To my knowledge, only one scientist chose to spend 40 years of his life grappling with the fundamental issues of obesity, its causes, its symptoms and its essential nature: ATW Simeons. After doing specialized work with thousands of patients, he concluded that the accumulation of excess fat on the body is the RESULT of a metabolic disorder—a functional abnormality in an area of the brain which lies at the center of hormonal control, within the autonomic nervous system.  He then proceeded to identify the means of restoring balanced functioning to this area, thereby allowing the body naturally to shed its inessential fat and restore the harmony on which radiant health depends.  It was he who created Cura Romana—The Roman Cure—more than half a century ago.  Unwittingly, his discoveries challenged the nonsense promulgated by food manufacturers, and posed a serious economic threat to the sale of potentially dangerous slimming drugs sold by multi-national pharmaceutical companies. Because of the effect these foods exert on insulin and blood sugar, refined carbohydrates, sugars and starches are most certainly the dietary culprits in the development of diabetes, coronary heart disease and obesity. They are also inevitable contributors to other diseases of civilization, including cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. </p>
<p>Well-designed independent research studies confirm all this and more. Cereals, grains, and sugar-based carbohydrates not only make you fat and/or prone to degenerative conditions. They distort hormonal regulation and homeostasis, fostering obesity as a consequence of the way they disturb insulin balance. They engender insulin resistance syndrome, Metabolic Syndrome—Syndrome X.</p>
<p>Why? Because carbohydrate foods such as these turn into sugar instantaneously on eating them.  They dull your brain.  They stimulate insulin secretion.  This in turn increases hunger, and diminishes the energy available to the body to fuel good metabolic processes and for use during day-to-day life. Finally, they undermine the healthy functioning of the fat and appetite control center in the brain, which is the one thing you want to restore balance to if you want to stabilize weight permanently.  If you include starches in your meals, eat only a small amount of “safe” starchy foods—15 to 20%—such as potatoes, buckwheat, brown rice, or wild rice. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Within each one of us, thin or fat, there lives a joyous creative spirit.  It is the spirit of the child &#8211; of life itself &#8211; a completely individual nature which is constantly seeking freedom simply to be what it is and to do what it wants to do.  The world we live in as we grow up seldom leaves space for that unique spirit to develop fully.  Our parents, our education, our culture is continually feeding us with rules about what we should and shouldn&#8217;t do &#8211; should and shouldn&#8217;t be.  It is a little like getting up each morning and having to put on your straightjacket before you begin the day.  For many people—both men and women—weight control has become part of that straightjacket.  They worry constantly about how or what to eat or not to eat.  They agonize over one or two pounds &#8211; or fifteen &#8211; gained or lost and they treat themselves like naughty children who need controlling lest they get out of hand and eat something they shouldn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>A person in any kind of straightjacket is a person disempowered.  It is a person who does not trust himself or herself and who to a greater or lesser degree lives in fear &#8211; fear of food, fear of what he or she might do, fear of disapproval from a society impassioned by notions of thinness.  I have known that struggle.  I have lived it myself and I see evidence of it all around me in women caught in the jaws of bulimia, anorexia or compulsive eating, and in men who overindulge in alcohol or fatty foods, struck down by a heart attack in the prime of life.  This has always seemed a terrible waste.</p>
<h2>POWER TO TRANSFORM</h2>
<p>Thirty years ago I began to ask questions like: Why do so many people struggle with weight in our society when the vast majority in other cultures never even seem to grow fat?  What causes the distortions to our bodies not only in body size and fat deposits, but in the degenerative conditions, from heart disease to rheumatoid arthritis that come in their wake?  Is it really weakness of character or lack of willpower that makes us all eat too much and gain weight?  And &#8211; most important of all &#8211; is there a way of eating and living that enables someone who is carrying too much fat around to eat and live so that whatever distortions have already appeared will disappear quite naturally as part of the process of regenerating the body through food and exercise?</p>
<h2>MY SEARCH FOR ANSWERS</h2>
<p>So I read many books and papers, listened to dozens of lectures from physicians and scientists and interviewed a number of doctors personally who claimed to have found answers.  Some of their answers were useful, but not until I was introduced to the work of ATW Simeons did I come to understand that even the most genuinely helpful discoveries about why we get fat—and why every slimming diet we follow—almost invariably lead sooner or later back to our regaining weight we have lost.  Why?  Because each and every one of them, no matter how sincere or well meaning, ignored the most important truth of all:  Simeons’ work stands alone even amongst the findings of many brilliant and sincere scientists and doctors—from Atkins to Sir Robert McCarrison who have contributed so much to sound dietary practice.  What makes Simeons unique is that he alone discovered that overweight, obesity and all the anguish that accompanies them is in no way caused by a lack of willpower or simple greed.  Neither can it be permanently cleared by putting people on a slimming regime. These conditions represent a significant metabolic disorder. Until this metabolic disorder is dealt with we will simply go on forever taking diet pills, shedding fat and then regaining it, along with all the inner grief, disappointment and shame we suffer each time this happens.  Even better, Simeons discovered where the locus of overweight lay in the body, and how to create a protocol that would give a man or woman’s overweight body a kind of permission to restore normal balanced functioning to that  area in the brain, thereby clearing not only unwanted fat but enhancing a person’s overall health in life-changing ways.</p>
<h2>THIN FOR WHAT?</h2>
<p>In the Western world we have long been possessed by an obsession with changing the shape of our bodies, especially trying to make it thinner, using one diet after another.  Yet making a body thinner is not always the best thing to do &#8211; either for its health or its good looks.  A thin body is a wimpish body.  It is a body depleted of energy and of power.  When you are lean you are strong, you have sleek muscles, good tone, and you can feast heartily on wholesome, natural foods in keeping with your body’s unique food needs, enabling you to stay that way.  You are also highly resistant to illness and early ageing as the years pass and you feel comfortable and at ease in your body.  This is a very different experience from the anxiety over thinness which disempowers so many men and women.  Leanness, created by restoring healthy balance and functioning to the body’s fat and appetite control center, brings a sense of power with it &#8211; a sense of being in control of your own life which is a far cry from the inadequacy many feel as they continue to battle against weight gain with conventional slimming diets.  I believe it is time we forgot about thin and choose instead to go lean from inside out.  This calls for revolution.  </p>
<h2>COME THE REVOLUTION</h2>
<p>To revolutionize means to change completely and fundamentally &#8211; your body and your life.  It is not a word chosen lightly but because it most accurately describes the powerful positive transformation that takes place in how you look and feel when you transform your appetite and fat control center so it works again, throw out convenience foods loaded with bad carbs, hidden sugar, junk fats and chemicals, and begin to feed heartily on the kind of foods your individual body loves, drink large quantities of pure water and strengthen your muscle mass through simple exercise that your body loves, be it dancing, yoga, swimming or what-have-you.
